Southerntiersportsnetwork.com will provide free, live, play by play streaming audio of Broome County high school and college sports. Southerntiersportsnetwork.com officially launched on September 1, 2006 with the web broadcast of the Fowler @ Binghamton Patriots high school football season opener at 7 pm.

For the upcoming 2007-08 basketball season, Southern Tier Sports Network will cover Binghamton area high school boy's and girl's basketball along with BCC Men's and Women's basketball.

basketball hoop“Local sports at both the high school and college levels in the Southern Tier have always had a tremendous amount of popularity.” - Matt Brannen, President & CEO of Southern Tier Sports Network

Matt Brannen, President & CEO of Southern Tier Sports Network, which operates Southerntiersportsnetwork.com, indicated that the initial Fowler-Binghamton game broadcast on September 1 ushers in a new era of local sports coverage in Broome County. Brannen said, “Local sports at both the high school and college levels in the Southern Tier have always had a tremendous amount of popularity. Technology has become more available and developed so that high quality play by play web broadcasts are no longer something of the future. We’re certain that this new web site will add to the much deserved and desired sports coverage of area teams and athletes.”

A key component to Southerntiersportsnetwork.com will be the continual availability of game broadcasts. Brannen stressed that this was a major reason why the Internet became the chosen media outlet for the company’s broadcasts. He explained, “Web broadcasts allow for the long-term archiving of game coverage. This is not something that is often found on radio or television. With archive capability, site visitors do not have to be at their homes, listening to games as they happen live, if they have schedule conflicts. Game broadcast coverage will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for people anywhere with a computer and Internet access.”

“The site’s purpose is to promote the good work student-athletes, coaches, officials, administrators, and others are doing in our community through local sports.” - Matt Brannen

While many sports broadcast web sites charge listeners monthly fees to access game audio, the Southern Tier Sports Network will not charge visitors to listen. “The site’s purpose is to promote the good work student-athletes, coaches, officials, administrators, and others are doing in our community through local sports.”

Brannen finished by indicating that any local businesses or organizations interested in helping sponsor current or future game broadcast coverage should contact Eric Donaldson by calling (607) 772-8400 or e-mail sales@southerntiersportsnetwork.com. Any web surfers interested in more information regarding the broadcast schedule or about the Southern Tier Sports Network are urged to log on today to Southerntiersportsnetwork.com.
